Divali Delicacies Mani

Hello!

As you may or may not know, Divali, the festival of lights will be celebrated next week (Tuesday in Trinidad). This is a very important and exciting festival for Hindus and non-Hindus alike and a lot of work goes into preparing for it.

I wasn't in the mood to do a mehndi pattern or deyas but I'm looking forward to Divali sweets so I did a mani based on that.

If you're unfamiliar with these foods, or if you're wondering how to make them, click the name of each sweet and you'll be taken to a recipe. Pictures are also included on the pages I've linked to, so you can see what they're supposed to look like.

Base Colours

Pinky finger: Mohanbhog (aka Prasad)
-The base colour was Sally Hansen Nearly Nude polish in "Naturel Pink." It's actually spelled "naturel" on the label. lol This is a really really old polish I had lying around, which used to be pink but has changed to a beige colour over time. I used four coats.

Ring finger: Ladoo
-Sinful Colours' "Let's Meet" was used for the base. I used three coats. There was still some VNL but nothing too terrible.

Middle finger: Kurma
-I started with Sinful Colours' "Satin" as a base but it wasn't dark enough so I used a polish by L.A. Colours over it. Unfortunately the label came off of that bottle so I don't know the name of the colour. I used two coats of it.

Index finger: Barfi
-The base was Sinful Colours' "Snow Me White." It took one coat to get rid of VNL but I added a second coat just to cover the few streaks here and there.

Thumb: Jalebi
-The base was a yellow OPI polish which has no name since it's a tiny sample which has no label. I used three coats and it was still streaky but I left it at that since adding another coat would make it take forever to dry.

Details

-I used Sinful Colours' "Rich in Heart" with a dotting tool to create the raisins. I think the end product has a few too many raisins but then again, I sometimes think the same about the actual food.

-I added some texture using the plastic wrap method: I crumpled up a small piece of plastic wrap and painted my first polish (in this case it was the same L.A. Colours polish I used as the base for the middle finger) onto it. I stamped it onto a scrap surface a few times to remove the excess and then stamped it onto my nail. I repeated this method using Colour Club's "Almost Famous."

-I used the plastic wrap method again, this time with Sinful Colours' "Snow Me White."

-I used a dotting tool to make the sprinkles. The colours I used were Sinful Colours' "Rise and Shine," Ruby Kisses' "Raspberry" and Colour Club's "Almost Famous" and "Chelsea Girl." I found the "Raspberry" was too dark for sprinkles so I went over it with Colour Club's "Warhol."

Thumb: Jalebi

-The actual jalebi was created using Shany's striping polish in 23. Some more texture was added using Shany's striping polish in 3, as well as Arista's "Sunkiss."

Happy polishing!
